European drift federation

Due to a growing need for harmonised quality and safety guidelines for Professional Drift Sport in Europe, EDF will actively support all Professional level Drifting activity in Europe. By first protecting the interests of drivers, pro-active support of international cooperation and careful sponsorship management, our goal is to generate a healthy growth of the sport.
This will be of benefit to drivers, organisers, sponsors and the fans.

The situation at present..

Despite numerous individuals alleging to represent Drifting,
commercial interest has always played a major role resulting in little or no investment in the further development of the sport.
Many organisers function purely for their own financial gain resulting in little cooperation with outside organisations and no further input.

Until now financial commitment has always been on the shoulders of the drivers with little or totally inadequate levels of funding emerging from sponsoring or organisers.

In exceptional cases efforts at reimbursement have been made by a few organisers for travel and consumables such as tyres. At the other end of the scale, sponsoring deals and income which was destined for drivers has been siphoned off by unscrupulous individuals, or channeled elsewhere without the knowledge of the sponsors and investors.

This is confirmed by a study carried out over a 2 year period by marketing organisation DriftPromotion, indicating the common practice of cashing-in which is also underlined by driver feedback from various events around Europe. In addition we would mention that the poor standards at some events are simply unacceptable whilst there is an ever growing pool of talented and experienced drivers to be catered for.

The relationship with several major players in the sponsorship league, including tyre manufacturers, has already been damaged by extremely poor management and monitoring of sponsorship agreements.

This has left both the Professional driver community as well as numerous sponsors and potential investors in a state of disillusionment with the sport and we consider that these practices must be "adjusted" to bring the sport on to a professional footing.

The Goal..

In order to achieve our goals, the EDF will introduce guidelines and a professional code of conduct for its members, affilliated supporters, sponsors and organisers. In this manner the EDF will lay down the foundations of sound quality guidelines and minimum acceptable standards for the sport including technical, safety and scoring criteria based on the highest world standards.

EDF will use current FIA vehicle safety equipment and driver clothing regulations as a MINIMUM standard (in fact we plan to exceed these standards). Rollcage standards will be specific to EDF requirements based on best practice and state of the art knowledge.

Safety has first priority at EDF.

Professional drivers are encouraged to subscribe to the EDF which will bring mutual benefits. At first, membership will be by invitation only and be opened up to general membership (subject to certain conditions) during the 2009 season for semi-pro level.

Some special items of interest:

- EDF plans to introduce unique, affordable insurance cover for drift drivers.

- EDF will pro-actively communicate with sponsors and supporters ensuring a return on their investment and adequate reception at events.

- EDF will introduce a VIP programme.

- EDF will actively support and sponsor training programmes that meet reasonable standards.

The federation has established it's first office in UDEN, Netherlands and it is planned to have national representatives in each of the major European countries where drift activity is present. For Eastern Europe our contact person will be based in Poland.

EDF will have representatives covering various disciplines:

. Drivers
. Technical and safety matters
. Teams
